styling a linen trench coat for spring✨ I love styling a linen trench coat for spring✨

I love trench coats. I wear them in every season except summer because it’s too hot/humid here. I have some classic trenches and a denim one, but the linen is new to me and I LOVE it! The material feels relaxed and lightweight. I really like the golden khaki color and it’s also available in sand, a light tan. This one is from @garnet.hill it’s a pr product, and it’s true to size. I styled it up with my favorite base— a cropped white tee and jeans. Then added soft leather loafers, a tote, and sunglasses.

It’s in the mid 80s today, so this jacket is only for when I’m inside. Who else is always cold?! 🙃 Today’s outfit is, a cream knit tank, distressed jeans, clear jellies shoes, a suede belt, cropped quilted jacket, a brown bag and sunnies. I’m heading to dinner tonight with my fam, parents, and sister’s kiddos. Kate would be 44 if she was here today. Happy Birthday in heaven, sis!

Seasonal Color Analysis with Color Guru: My Best Colors for my Wardrobe

I recently got a seasonal color analysis with Color Guru to discover what my best colors are for my wardrobe. If you haven’t heard of Color Guru— they created a 12 type seasonal color analysis system in order to be able to give the most accurate color results available online. They analyze your hair, skin, and eye color to match you with your ideal color palette for your wardrobe.

They have a few packages that you can choose from. I got The Essential Package which includes: analysis of your photos, color card duo (digital & physical) with your 35 best colors, and a color radiance report. If you want to know your best makeup color as well (me!) you can also add on getting a makeup color card as well (digital & physical). They ship worldwide and shipping is free.

Color Guru kindly reached out to partner with me. They provided the package I got as well as a discount code to share with you all. If you’re interested in getting a color consultation, you can use my code is: MICHELLET for 10% off. With that said, this blog post was not a requirement. I chose to write this and share my thoughts and opinions with you!

The process is really easy! You head to the Color Guru website, select the package you want and purchase, (don’t forget to use: MICHELLET for 10% off at checkout), upload photos of yourself, and receive your color radiance report and digital color card(s) within three business days. The physical copy of your card(s) arrive within two to three weeks.

Benefits of Knowing Your Best Colors

Why should you consider getting a seasonal color analysis with Color Guru?

Here are the benefits I’ve seen:

  • you will avoid looking washed out from wearing the wrong colors for you— not every color looks good on every person, your best colors highlight your natural beauty and make you “glow”
  • the palette of colors within your type look great together, and on you, so you can weave more color into your wardrobe in a cohesive way
  • the digital and physical color cards are really easy to reference when you’re shopping so you have clear guidance saving you time from guessing and contemplating

The Journey to My Color Consultation

A little back story— I grew up loving art. I was often drawing and creating things. In high school I took all the art classes my school offered. In college I minored in Fine Arts. After getting my bachelor’s degree, I got an associate degree in Merchandise Product Development from a fashion school. This degree prepped for careers in styling, merchandising, buying, and design. I went on to work in design, merchandising, and buying professionally and now I’m styling outfits through blogging. All of that to say— I’ve had a lifelong interest and natural knack for (plus education and training in) art and design.

To be honest, I didn’t really think I needed help with colors in my wardrobe. First of all, I’m a rule bucker. : ) I don’t like the idea of being told what to wear and not wear. Whether it’s due to color, traditions, fashion “rules”, age, societal opinions, etc. Secondly, I am knowledgable about the color wheel and have an eye for things, which has served me well to date in the jobs I’ve had.

After four years of blogging, loving growth and learning, and seeing friends share about getting their color cards— I was curious. But I was certain that I could look at the seasonal descriptions and colors, browse social media to find others with similar coloring to mine, and determine my seasonal type. So pretty quickly, I landed on calm autumn. Was I 100% positive? No, but I was pretty sure.

I’ve always felt less sure of what makeup colors look best on me. The handful of times I was color matched in beauty stores when buying foundation, the colors recommended to me were labeled as either neutral or warm. The idea of being able to determine undertones is not something I have any knowledge of. And beyond foundation, I’ve always just picked blush, eye, and lip colors based on what I like. This isn’t bad at all, but I know enough to know that your best colors make you look brighter, younger, and have a certain glow to you.

So while I felt really confident in the colors I wear and select for my wardrobe, I knew I had more to learn about makeup and undertones. Additionally, I had a growing curiosity to not only know if I was right about my seasonal guess, but also to know if there were colors that would be great on me that I didn’t have in my wardrobe because I’d never really given them a chance.

My Seasonal Color Palette: Calm Autumn

Seasonal Color Analysis with Color Guru. Color Guru Calm Autumn. Michelle Tomczak Blog.

When Color Guru reached out to me, I was excited and ready for my seasonal color analysis. In their professional opinion, I’m a Calm Autumn, so I was right. And now that I was sure, it turns out that a lot of the colors on the card are colors in my wardrobe like: shades of greens, brown. ivory and cream. Just from my “art eye”, I knew that more muted tones look better on me than bright, clear tones. My color palette card confirms this.

What surprised me? Despite assuming I’m a calm autumn, I hadn’t noticed that black isn’t on that color card, and I wear it a lot. What is on my card that I almost never wear— classic navy. What else “competes” with black for the basic in your wardrobe? Chocolate brown, a color I’ve only really worn for the past couple of years.

When faced with the choice of black or navy, I always go black. I like black more and I don’t plan on cutting it out of my wardrobe. I just pass over navy and don’t ever consider it. However, with it being on my card I want to try to experiment with adding some navy pieces to my wardrobe, If I like them, maybe they can replace some of my black basics— who knows.

Also, I’ll wear my best colors and accessorize with black, ie belt, handbag, shoes. This way, I can incorporate a color that I really I like to wear that isn’t one of my best colors. When I do wear an outfit with a lot of black in it, I’ll try to brighten up my face with blush and lip colors and accessorize the outfit in a way that pulls in other colors from my card.

Is a Seasonal Color Analysis with Color Guru Worth It?

Ultimately, I am so glad to know what my best colors are. It’s great information and a nice tool to help make me feel my best. When you feel good in your outfits, you’re more confident and able to take on the day, show up in your relationships, and do big things. I think the seasonal color analysis is worth it, whether you need a little bit of help or a lot.

The color radiance report was really cool to read. They briefly go over color theory, then walk you through all of the tests they do with your photo so you can see for yourself how they come up with what your seasonal type is. It’s really cool and fascinating to see it and read the explainations.

I still believe that bottom line— you should wear what you love. You don’t have to follow any rules AND you can have access to this information/resource that will help you with: wardrobe choices, exploring more colors with confidence, and potentially loving you wardrobe and outfits more than you do now by incorporating some changes— big or small.

Have you ever had a seasonal color analysis? If you have, let me know in the comments below! If you haven’t and you’re interested, you can read more about it here, and get 10% off with my code: MICHELLET.
